| Naxos, located in the centre of the Aegean Sea, is the largest island of Cyclades. An island that distinguishes for the lush greenery and traditional architecture, Naxos is among the most popular summer destinations in Greece, but still it keeps its authentic character. The interesting sightseeing, the long sandy beaches, the calm atmosphere and the hospitality of the locals attract lots of visitors every summer.
The capital of Naxos is Chora, with the Venetian architecture, the lovely beach promenade and the marble gate of Portara at the entrance of the port, the only thing left from an ancient temple. In the inland of Naxos, you shall visit lovely villages with traditional style and surrounded by natural beauty. Koronos, Halki, Filoti and Aperanthos are only few of these magnificent villages.
Apart from the magnificent countryside, Naxos also has lovely beaches. The south western part is more tourist-developed. Agios Prokopios, Plaka, Maragas, Kastraki and Orkos offer long sandy coastline and crystal water. Also, due to the wind conditions, Naxos is a popular place for windsurfing and kite surfing, particularly the spots of Mikri Vigla and Laguna.
Naxos is easy to access by plane or ferry from Athens. Its airport also receives charter flights from abroad in summer. Due to its central location, Naxos is connected by ferry to many other Greek islands.
